On June 7th, we honored the life of Mike Dwan, who served the Saginaw area for some 35 years.
Mike was dedicated to the legal profession. He took great pride in his law library and diligently
monitored the cascade of legal opinions on a daily basis. He pursued the cases that he believed in
and he won them.
His practice included service to a steady stream of citizens from all walks of life, as well as
businesses of varying sizes and missions. He took pride in service as a pro bono attorney. Mike
took the time to meet with each client, to consider their issues, and to determine what, if anything,
he could do for them. He understood the ability that he had to assist and to find solutions. He made
himself available to those who might not otherwise be able to obtain representation.
Mike Dwan was from Saginaw and attended University of Detroit Law School. Upon graduation, he
clerked for Chief Justice Kavanaugh of the State of Michigan Supreme Court and was an Assistant
Prosecutor for Kalamazoo County before returning to Saginaw to begin private practice.
His contributions include an award as the Saginaw Bar Association Pro Bono Attorney of the Year
for Saginaw County in 2005, Member of the International Essential Tremor Foundation, Founder of
the Essential Tremor Society of Northeast Michigan, and served on the Board of Directors of
Michigan Sports Unlimited. He was a Founding member of Bay County Crime Stoppers, served on
the Board of Directors of Legal Services of Eastern Michigan, the Finance Committee of the
Saginaw Catholic Diocese, and was a Member of the U.S. Government Selective Service Board,
Board Member of The Unthinkable for School Bus Safety, President of the Abbott Lake Hunt Club,
served on several parish councils and also other organizations. Mike enjoyed sailing, spending time
at the beach with his family and helping people.
Dwan Law Offices, PLLC continues in the tradition and legacy of H. Michael Dwan (1943-2007).
